Kris Boyd shares shock Rangers claim ahead of Celtic showdown
Kris Boyd says it would be a “shock” if Rangers beat Celtic in the Scottish League Cup final.
Despite years of battling with their arch-rivals at the top of the Scottish Premiership, the Gers have struggled this season and find themselves sitting third in the table while Celtic run away with it.
Philippe Clement’s side seems to have stepped it up in recent weeks although they are still far from where they want to be ahead of the Hampden Park showdown on 15 December.
Speaking live on Sky Sports [8 December, 11:29] Boyd said: “I think that you know, you look at those fixtures.
“I think the European game will take care of itself, it’ll be interesting to see what happens next Sunday. Celtic go into that heavy favourites and you’ve got to say if Rangers were to go and beat Celtic it would be a shock and that shouldn’t be the case.”
Can Philippe Clement improve things at Rangers?
Although there has been plenty going on behind the scenes at Ibrox which has affected what has been produced on the pitch, there is not an excuse for Clement’s side to be doing as poorly as they are this season.
As Boyd says, the biggest tell of how far they have fallen is that they go into a game against Celtic as a clear underdog and would cause a shock if they were able to beat their rivals, a reality that many supporters will not be happy with.

There are plenty of good players in this Rangers side and they have to be prepared to step up on a more consistent basis going forward if they are going to get back into the swing of delivering for their supporters at Ibrox.
The concern is that the boss has failed to make his side perform so far this season and therefore, it’s no surprise that plenty of questions are being asked about his future at the club as they seek to return to their traditional standards.
