Alex Ferguson appointment at Rangers given seal of approval

Derek Ferguson would “love” to see Rangers go all out to get Sir Alex Ferguson involved behind the scenes at Ibrox.

Alan Nixon reported via The Sun on Sunday on 10 November that the legendary Manchester United manager has snapped up a flat in Glasgow to be closer to his “other team” Rangers.

This led to suggestions Ferguson would be up for getting involved in some capacity with the Gers, with whom he has strong ties.

And BBC Sport pundit Derek Ferguson insists it is quite simply a “no-brainer” for the club to persuade Ferguson into taking on a role at Ibrox.

“First and foremost, he could probably buy the whole of Govan never mind just a house,” Ferguson joked in an exclusive chat with Ibrox News.

“Alex Ferguson hinted before that he wanted to be a part of Rangers, or at least have some sort of influence. For me, it’s a complete no-brainer.

I just think you’ve got to tap into these experienced guys who have won things. I’d have Graeme Souness involved in some capacity because it’s important to not only have guys who know the game inside out, but also those who have won things and have an aura about them.

Alex Ferguson, Phwoah – he has an aura about him. If we can attract guys like that who are willing to come in and about the club, it’s an absolute no-brainer. I’d love to see that.”

How long was Alex Ferguson at Rangers?

Fergie spent a couple of seasons at Ibrox in his playing days, which it is fair to say have not gone down in folklore in quite the same way as his managerial days.

The closest Ferguson got to managing the Gers, geographically speaking, is when he took charge of Aberdeen and had great success.

It is during his time at Manchester United he is best remembered, of course, but it should not be forgotten just how fondly he thinks of Rangers.

If he is indeed snapping up property near Ibrox to be close to the Gers, there is absolutely no reason he should not be asked if he fancies working at the club in some capacity.

In other Rangers news, Ferguson has questioned the “really strange” reasoning behind an Ibrox hire.
