Rangers slammed for degrading Ianis Hagi as embarrassing Ibrox claim made

Rangers were “embarrassing” and “degrading” Ianis Hagi after the situation he was put in early on in the season, Keith Jackson has said.

The Daily Record journalist has slammed the Gers for their treatment of the Romanian in recent months after he made just two appearances in the first 11 Scottish Premiership fixtures.

Speaking on Hotline Live [5 December], Scott McDermott said: “He’s had two starts and he’s got three assists. This is a guy that Rangers were ignoring.”

Journalist Jackson responded: “They weren’t ignoring him, they were actually embarrassing him. They were degrading him.”

Hagi wasn’t included in the Light Blues’ squad for the first six league games and featured for the B team at Auchenhowie before Philippe Clement gave him minutes in the senior side.

Ianis Hagi has answered critics at Rangers

The Romania international has struggled for game time at Ibrox over the years after picking up a knee injury in the 2021/22 season.

After struggling to get opportunities at Ibrox, the 26-year-old joined Deportivo Alaves on loan in the previous campaign and failed to make much of an impact in Spain.

Hagi’s career at the Bears seemed to be concluding in the summer, but the playmaker remained at the Glaswegian outfit.

After Rangers got off to a poor start under Clement this term, the Ibrox faithful had been clamouring to see the Romanian be involved.

The fans’ faith in the 26-year-old has been proven right, with the midfielder providing the Light Blues the cutting edge in the final third in the last few matches.

Hagi’s second-half stint against Dundee United on 23 November was influential as the Bears made a comeback in the 1-1 draw at home.

The playmaker made his mark at McDiarmid Park as well, forcing an own goal from Jason Holt in the 1-0 win over St Johnstone on 1 December.

Clement can no longer ignore the 26-year-old after his two assists as a starter in the 6-0 drubbing of Kilmarnock – which blew a pundit away – and the Ibrox faithful will hope the attacking midfielder can continue his fine form.
