Rangers news as new sporting director development emerges

Rangers can yet make a move to bring in a new sporting director, according to Chris Jack.

The Rangers Review journalist reported on 4 December that an update on the club’s executive structure is a “non-negotiable” at the AGM on 5 December.

A permanent Head of Academy is currently a role that’s unfilled at Ibrox.

Jack wrote: “Bennett stepped down as chairman weeks later and was replaced by Gilligan. The Rangers Review revealed the departure of Creag Robertson and it was confirmed in November that Nils Koppen had been promoted to the role of technical director.

“A move for a sporting director figure is not off the table and an update on the executive structure is a non-negotiable on Thursday. Rangers are still operating without a permanent head of academy.”

Rangers fans will be demanding accountability

Supporters are awaiting clarity on the club’s structure, which is currently seen as lacking confidence-inspiring stability.

The club’s leadership has seen changes with John Bennett stepping down as chairman, leading to John Gilligan’s interim role and the departure of Creag Robertson.

While Nils Koppen has been promoted to technical director, the absence of a permanent sporting director and a Head of Academy leaves significant gaps.

Fans are looking forward to these roles being filled as part of a broader strategy to ensure that the club can operate with a clear vision and effective management, fostering both on-field success and organisational stability.

The AGM is in many ways a referendum on the current board and it’s fair to see that they’re clearly not doing well.

It has been a shambolic structure behind the scenes and things need to improve sooner rather than later.
