Rangers AGM: Gasps as James Taylor shares Ibrox transfer reveal

Rangers collected just £810,000 from the summer sales of five players including Todd Cantwell, Sam Lammers and Connor Goldson, James Taylor has confirmed.

Gers fan Andy McKellar posted on X (5 December) from the club’s annual general meeting after a question was asked about the club raking in £810,000 on five first-team players in the transfer window.

Taylor, the Light Blues’ chief finance officer, confirmed that the sales of Cantwell, Lammers, Goldson, as well as Scott Wright and Robby McCrorie, had indeed brought just £810,000 into the club’s coffers.

In quotes reported by the Daily Record (5 December), Taylor said: “Yes it’s confirmed, 800k is indeed the number”, with his answer met by audible gasps around the room.

Rangers AGM reveals clear sign of new transfer strategy needed

Bringing in an average transfer fee of just £162,000 for five players who – some more than others – were all firmly involved in the first-team picture last season almost beggars belief.

It’s no shock to any Bears fan that the club has been run without a steady hand on the tiller for some time, but even the most pessimistic supporter wouldn’t have dreamed of such low fees being accepted.

While McCrorie is the outlier having played just once last term and joining Kilmarnock on the cheap, the remaining quartet made a combined 156 appearances last season, with all-but Lammers being regulars.

Furthermore, Lammers is playing on the continent and scoring freely for FC Twente, with Wright moving to cash-rich Birmingham City and Cantwell on an EFL Championship promotion push with Blackburn.

All of these sides seem to have their houses in order – and thus could have been pushed to pay higher fees – making the fact that they were all able to low-ball the Gers to such an extent, simply unforgivable.
