Philippe Clement will be lucky to avoid Rangers sack in December

Philippe Clement will be lucky to avoid being sacked as the Rangers manager in December, according to Keith Jackson.

The Daily Record journalist is unconvinced about the Belgian’s current approach at Ibrox, describing it as “scattergun stuff”, and highlighted the contrast between him and Brendan Rodgers at Celtic.

He also feels there is enough evidence against Clement to suggest that he will not be in charge of the Light Blues come the end of the month, especially with tough fixtures against Tottenham and the Hoops coming up.

“He [Clement] is throwing muck at the wall and seeing what sticks, he’s doing it now week by week basis, a decision by decision basis, some of them don’t make sense, scattergun stuff”, Jackson said on Daily Record’s Hotline podcast [2 December].

“So, there couldn’t be more of a contrast [with Brendan Rodgers].

“I’m suggesting that there’s now enough evidence piling up which makes you think that Clement is going to be really lucky to see this month out.

“He’s got two bunches of four games, starting obviously at home to Kilmarnock mid-week this week, Ross County away, then it’s Spurs at home and Celtic at Hampden and I think that he’s got to do well to survive that.

“I think that he’s in real tricky waters by that point.”

Philippe Clement’s time at Rangers nearing an end

Clement is under increasing pressure in Govan after falling 11 points behind Celtic in the Scottish Premiership.

As Simon Jordan suggested on talkSPORT on Monday [2 December], the Ibrox outfit’s form in the UEFA Europa League is likely helping him cling on to his job.

There have also been suggestions that Rangers are reluctant to pull the plug on Clement without a permanent chairman in place [Ludo Vandewalle].

However, with Patrick Stewart set to take office as the CEO on 16 December and Malcolm Offord lined up as chairman [The Scottish Sun], the writing could be on the wall for the former Monaco boss.

After their league games against Kilmarnock and Ross County, the Light Blues host Tottenham at home in the Europa League on 12 December.

That game is followed by the Scottish League Cup final against Celtic at Hampden on 15 December.

Those two games could potentially determine Clement’s future in Glasgow.
