Dujon Sterling injury fears raised after Rangers development
Dujon Sterling could be out for a considerable period after picking up another injury at Rangers, Alan Hutton says.
Philippe Clement confirmed after the 1-0 win over St Johnstone on 1 December that the right-back was set to see a specialist to unblock a nerve, which kept him out of the victory at McDiarmid Park.
The 25-year-old has been impressive this season and had replaced James Tavernier in the starting lineup in recent weeks before picking up a fitness issue.
Speaking on The Scottish Football Social Club, Hutton raised concerns about the defender, saying: “I really like him at right-back. It’s about time now that he nails down a position.
“It’s good that he can play in several, and he can cover different positions, but I think right-back is for him and that’s where his future will be.
“To have a nerve issue, that’s a whole different ball game because could it be a week, a month? We’ll have to wait and see.”
Rangers need Dujon Sterling back immediately
The Bears have some important fixtures coming up in December, starting with Kilmarnock on 4 December, a team they lost to earlier in the campaign.
Tavernier is now the only option at right-back for Clement, and the 33-year-old hasn’t convinced many with his performances this season.
Naraysho Kasanwirjo would’ve been a decent backup option on the right-hand side of the defence, but the Dutchman picked up an injury, and Dr Rajpal Brar has told Ibrox News that he could be sidelined for months.
The Gers have Tottenham in the Europa League next before the Scottish League Cup final on 15 December against Celtic.
Clement will surely need a win in the Old Firm to keep his hopes of staying in the Ibrox dugout alive.
If Sterling is indeed set to miss the upcoming matches, then Tavernier needs to step up and show leadership as the captain of the Light Blues.
In other Rangers news, Hutton has also made an admission about Tavernier’s situation.
