Nils Koppen to-do list emerges at Ibrox amid Rangers ‘Mess’

Nils Koppen’s top priority on his Rangers to-do list after being promoted to technical director will be to forge a strong relationship with incoming CEO Patrick Stewart, Daily Record journalist Scott McDermott has said.

Koppen was given a new role at Ibrox last month after previously overseeing recruitment at Rangers.

Stewart will join as CEO later this month and McDermott thinks forging strong links between the two will be crucial for Koppen to “unravel the mess” at Ibrox.

Writing in the Sunday Mail [1 December, page 60], McDermott opined: “For a start, Koppen must forge a relationship with incoming CEO Patrick Stewart who arrives on December 16.

“And he somehow has to unravel the mess that’s been left behind the scenes at Rangers and find alignment.

“That’s the key here. For far too long, the club has been devoid of a strategy or a plan. But there must be a clear idea that runs from the board, through the CEO, Koppen, the academy and Clemence.

“Without that alignment, the club won’t go anywhere.”

What needs to be done to really change things at Rangers?

With Stewart’s arrival incoming, all eyes will be on Koppen to ensure that there is a plan in place that can see some real progress for Rangers coming soon.

As McDermott alludes to, for too long we have seen a real lack of any direction behind the scenes and therefore, it is essential that everyone at the club creates a blueprint for success moving forward. This will include holding conversations from the top of the club all the way down giving everyone a clear way to work forward and build a more sustainable model.

However, there have been questions over whether the arrival of the new CEO will mean the end of the road for Philippe Clement at Ibrox and if this were the case, you would be keen to see those at the top with a ready-made plan to replace him.

There will be plenty of apprehension from Rangers fans who are longing to see their side pick themselves up again but for any immediate impact to happen, the responsibility is on those at the top to create a clear strategy for the club going forward.
