Ferguson loves Tavernier moment in St Johnstone v Rangers – ‘There’s the desire’
Derek Ferguson has praised James Tavernier for his “desire” which forced Rangers’ winning goal against St Johnstone on Sunday.
The Gers secured a hard-fought three points away from McDiarmid Park on 1 December thanks to a second-half Jason Holt own goal.
The Light Blues’ captain took the acclaim after forcing the error at the back post, which was ultimately the match-winning moment against the Saints in a 1-0 win.
Speaking live on BBC Sportsound, Ferguson was full of praise for the 33-year-old as he said: “There’s the desire from Tavernier who’s had a great afternoon so far.
“He’s capped it off because if he doesn’t get there, that ball gets cleared but he gets in there and it ends up in the back of the net. It’s just rewards for Rangers with how good they’ve been.”

The Englishman has come under scrutiny throughout the season but looked a lot closer to his usual self in a positive result for Philippe Clement.
Tavernier was rested for the midweek thrashing of Nice in the Europa League but with Dujon Sterling absent through injury, he came straight back in.
Any doubts over Tavernier were wiped away by his showing as he and Vaclav Cerny represented arguably Rangers’ strongest area of the pitch.
This is just what the Light Blues needed to help close the gap and ease any pressure building on his manager this campaign.
With Kilmarnock travelling to Ibrox on Wednesday (4 December), the skipper has to maintain this level of performance to prove himself to Clement and the supporters.
If he can refind his form of years gone by, the Gers will have a weapon which could inspire them up the Scottish Premiership as they continue the pursuit of Aberdeen and Celtic.
