Ally McCoist reacts to Rangers announcement with ‘Great’ news
Rangers are finally taking “steps in the right direction” after Patrick Stewart’s appointment as CEO, Ally McCoist has said.
Speaking on talkSPORT (27 November, 8:09am), McCoist reacted to the hiring of Stewart, mentioning his vast experience on the board of Manchester United.
While Alan Brazil asked how Stewart’s appointment would speed along hopes of another league title, McCoist was keen to stress that off-field stability must be the main priority for now.
He said: “They’re starting to hopefully get themselves squared up from the top.
“New chief executive was appointed; Patrick Stewart – he was on the board at Manchester United as well – that’s obviously steps in the right direction, which is great.”
Brazil asked: “How many years until they win another SPL?”
McCoist replied: “The good news is things are getting sorted up at the top – you’ve got to have a bit of stability at the top, it hasn’t been there Alan, and it’s got to get sorted.”

Stewart’s appointment to the Ibrox board is not only long overdue, it’s also only the first of several key vacancies to be filled, a whopping seven months after James Bisgrove’s departure as CEO.
The other top jobs at Ibrox still have massive question marks hanging over them – none more so than the role of chairman, but this is expected to be addressed before the AGM on 5 December [Chris Jack, 13 November].
With the Light Blues being strapped for cash seemingly at all levels and £17.2million of losses recorded in their recently-released accounts, further expertise at boardroom level is desperately needed.
The Gers have arguably hamstrung themselves when it comes to Philippe Clement’s position as manager too, with his four-year contract looking more deluded by the week.
Although Stewart won’t start in his new role until 16 December – the day after the Scottish League Cup Final against Celtic – he’ll need to hit the ground running if effective changes are to be made at Ibrox.
In other Rangers news, Kris Boyd said fans at Ibrox were ready to “turn” during the Gers’ 1-1 draw with Dundee United last week.
