Rangers transfer budget twist for Philippe Clement as Ibrox pressure rises
Scott Burns believes the “goalposts” of Rangers transfer budget may have been moved for Philippe Clement in the summer after seeing the new players who were brought in.
The Gers had a massive overhaul of their team in the last transfer window with players such as Connor Barron and Robin Propper being brought in.
Speaking on the Daily Record’s Hotline Live (25 November), journalist Burns shared his thoughts on the Gers’ summer recruitment.
“I’m not sure if the goalposts have been moved for Philippe Clement at some point,” he said.
“Initially when he started his summer transfers he was going for younger players with a sort of longer term view.
“He was then looking to bring in more experienced players which he did bring in a few but I’m not sure if the budgets were dropped a little and then he couldn’t get some of the other players to come in.
“Only Philippe Clement and the board can tell us that but there seemed to be some sort of movement somewhere across the summer where the manager thought what he had and what he was going to get were two different things.”
Philippe Clement doesn’t have much time left to rectify the situation at Rangers
The 2024/25 season has been full of ups and downs for the Gers and their fans with some results such as their 4-0 win over FCSB in the Europa League being the highlights of their season.
However, while there have been good times sprinkled throughout the campaign, more often than not this term, Clement has found his men on the back foot.
Their recent 1-1 Scottish Premiership draw against Dundee United is an example of how things can go from good to bad in an instant with the club now finding themselves 11 points adrift of league leaders, Celtic.

Before the season kicked off, fans and pundits alike believed that the club would be able to put up a decent battle for the title but instead, things couldn’t have been any different.
The Gers are now arguably the third-best team in the league which for a club of their stature, is rather poor.
If the Belgian wants to save his job, changes will have to be made as soon as possible.
