Philippe Clement sack verdict drops ahead of Rangers boardroom change

Michael Gannon has tipped Malcolm Offord and Patrick Stewart to possibly sack Philippe Clement as their first act at Rangers.

Stewart is expected to make his way to Ibrox soon as the new chief executive officer, and Offord will replace interim chairman John Gilligan [Rangers Review, 23 November].

Dundee United were welcomed by the Gers on 23 November in the Scottish Premiership, and Clement managed to scrape a point with a 1-1 draw after Vaclav Cerny’s second-half equaliser.

Speaking on the Daily Record’s Hotline Live [24 November], Gannon said: “He looks done, doesn’t he?

“If you’re talking about the incoming CEO and chairman, if they’re looking for a way to make an impact with the fans, what do they do? They bump the guy who’s failing badly in the job, the manager.”

Patrick Stewart and Malcolm Offord have big Philippe Clement decision to make at Rangers

Rangers are currently at one of their lowest points in recent years, and it has surprised many that Clement is struggling.

The former Monaco manager was the one who turned the tide at Ibrox after Michael Beale’s abysmal time in the Bears’ dugout.

Last season, the 50-year-old managed to lift a trophy in his first few months in charge of the Light Blues as they won the Scottish League Cup.

With another final coming up against Celtic in December, many see that as Clement’s final chance to turn his fortunes around with a win at Hampden Park.

Apart from on-field issues, the Glaswegian club has left a lot to be desired off it, with unsatisfactory summer recruitment and a loss of £17.2 million in their recent accounts.

Once they step foot into Ibrox, Stewart and Offord have big decisions to make, and one of them may well relate to Clement’s future, who looks on the edge of the sack every week.
