Chris Sutton takes instant swipe at Rangers as Celtic beat Hearts
Chris Sutton has taken a jibe at Rangers and claimed Aberdeen are the “real challengers” to Celtic after their 4-1 win over Hearts.
The Hoops took on the Jambos on 23 November and beat them right after Philippe Clement’s team dropped points in the 1-1 draw against Dundee United at Ibrox in the Scottish Premiership.
Aberdeen, second in the league table, lost 2-1 to St Mirren on the day, and taking to X [23 November] after Celtic’s triumph, Sutton took a jibe at the Light Blues.
“Phenomenal second half from Celtic. Kyogo’s movement is excellent, and Nicolas Kuhn looks absolutely quality. What a finish,” he wrote.
“Two goals will do the world of good for Adam Idah. Three points clear of the real challengers Aberdeen… good point for Rangers in third.”
Rangers way off Celtic this season
The Bears are now 11 points off their Old Firm rivals, leading the Scottish Premiership after their win over Hearts, which saw five goals being scored in the second half.
While Celtic don’t seem to have any issues with their goalscoring prospects this season, Rangers are struggling to hit the back of the net consistently.
The Light Blues’ issues up front were evident in the first half as Cyriel Dessers barely had a touch on the ball and was hooked off at half-time.
The Nigerian has shown profligacy throughout the campaign and has frustrated the Ibrox faithful as he’s failed to lead the line.
Clement has been unable to get the better of the Hoops in the five Old Firm derbies so far, with the Bears losing four and drawing one.
While the league title looks out of the Gers’ reach, they are set to face Celtic in the Scottish League Cup final, but considering the gap in quality between the two sides, it would be ignorant to go against Brendan Rodgers’ team.
