Rangers fans to lose no sleep on Philippe Clement exit after latest news
Alasdair Lamont believes Rangers fans wouldn’t have many “sleepless nights” if Philippe Clement were to leave Ibrox for the Belgium job.
The Gers’ boss has been linked with the managerial role for his country after Dominic Tedesco led the Red Devils to a 1-0 loss against Israel on 17 November.
Writing for the BBC Sport website (20 November), BBC reporter Lamont shared his thoughts on the situation surrounding the Belgian.
“There is rarely a quiet moment at Rangers. Just as it seemed the international break might afford the club a little time out of the headlines, Belgium go and lose to Israel to spark speculation about Domenico Tedesco’s position as manager and, more pointedly, Philippe Clement’s potential as a replacement,” he wrote.
“From the reactions I’ve seen on social media, this is not a scenario that would cause many Rangers fans sleepless nights though from my perspective it seems little better than the one where the club dispenses with a manager and begins yet another ‘project’.
“The only aspect that would render this more positive would be the financial gain, rather than a multi-million pound pay-off.”
Rangers should only allow Philippe Clement to exit if Belgium come in for him
Perhaps the main reason behind Rangers keeping Clement as their boss is due to the amount of money they’d have to pay the 50-year-old in order to relieve him of his duties.
As has been shown time and time again this season, the Gers are under some major financial constraints with the club unlikely to be able to bring anyone in during the January transfer window unless players are sold on.
The thought of another club or nation coming in for the manager and paying the compensation that would be needed to pry him away from Ibrox is likely an ideal scenario for Rangers and would likely be welcomed with open arms.

Of course, these are all just rumours at the moment but the common consensus between most Rangers fans, as Lamont mentioned, seems to be that they can’t see where their club is going with him in charge.
Only time will tell what the future has in store for both parties but the fact that something like this is even being considered will likely be music to most fans’ ears.
