Rangers could be due millions in compensation after Philippe Clement update

Rangers would likely be due millions in compensation should the Belgian FA want to hire Philippe Clement, Dan Plumley has said.

Clement was recently placed as the favourite to take over his homeland’s national side should Domenico Todesco be fired [Rangers Review].

Asked if the compensation would be in the millions, the football finance expert admitted that is likely the case despite heat on the Belgian at Ibrox.

“You would imagine so,” he exclusively told Ibrox News.

“We know how this works nowadays, and any manager move-around, depending on where the contract is and the length of the contract still to run often demands significant compensation fees and release clauses.

Alongside that, you’ve got to take into account the short-term factors and the current situation, there has been a little bit of heat on Clement in the last few weeks with performances and their standing in the table and what’s going on around the club.

Philippe Clement to leave Rangers?

There are short-term factors that can have a bigger impact, but certainly, from a contractual point-of-view, for sure, it depends on where the contract is at, there will be compensation clauses, and release fees that would have to be considered by both sides if you’re looking to get a manager out of a contract.”

Despite links gaining traction over Clement and Belgium, Ibrox News has been told that an approach will not happen unless he is sacked by Rangers first.

With Todesco still in charge, there is still plenty of time for more twists and turns in Belgium.

In other Rangers news, one Ibrox regular has been backed to succeed James Tavernier as Gers captain after his recent displays.
