Rangers board cause real disappointment as update on full Ibrox takeover emerges

Derek Ferguson is disappointed but not surprise to hear that there looks to be no chance of a Rangers takeover in the near future.

Dave King has pitched at return as Ibrox chairman to bring in investment from Saudi Arabia and the USA but has seemingly been snubbed by the current board.

And rumours of takeover interest from the Far East has not materialised, with Chris Jack reporting for Rangers Review on 11 October that a change of ownership is not on the cards and any new cash is expected to once more come from current investors.

John Halsted has held “detailed” talks about upping his stake in the club [Daily Record, 29 October], but after multiple seasons of mismanagement in Govan a continuation of the status quo has not been met with much optimism.

Celtic continue to streak ahead financially and on the pitch, yet it has been suggested that the Rangers board aren’t especially open to what investment options there are [Alan Brazil via talkSPORT, 31 October].

And in that context Ferguson has called on the Ibrox hierarchy to sit down with whoever is willing to put in the necessary cash and consider making some sacrifices to strike the right deal.

“It’s disappointing but it’s not a big surprise,” he exclusively told Ibrox News to the news that a takeover isn’t expected.

“I don’t know why they don’t sit down and get around the table to speak to these investors, and ask them exactly what they’d be looking for.

“If they’re going to pump the money into the club you’ve got to have that conversation, you’ve got to sit down.

“But from the outside looking in it looks like they’re clearly not interested and they’re going to continue in the same vein, which is a disappointment.

“Because we need investment, we need to sit down with these people. That’s why I thought when Dave King, I know it’s only a two-year plan, but it was just to try us back on a certain level.

“But again they’ve no interested to even talk to Dave by the looks of it to have that conversation.

“It’s just the way they are, and it’s a real disappointment, because we’re looking for something, something to give us a bit of hope. And at every opportunity that hope just seems to get knocked back.

With these guys it’s hard for me to say because they’re successful businessmen in their own right. But when it comes to football then that’s where there’s question marks come up.

“I cannae get it into my thick skull that if there is that interest why would you not go, even to meet them? Go and speak to them, go and sit down.

“But we don’t hear that that’s the case so if they are Rangers supporters, which they obviously are, they’re massive Rangers supporters, well clearly you want the best for the club.

“And it doesnae seem that way, and it’s like ‘No, we’re not going to let you in, we’ve got our own wee group’.

“I don’t really know where to go with it. I just think it’s a no-brainer to accept investment, but within reason, because these guys when they come in want certain things.

“Sometimes you’ve got to give a little to get that success, so it’s a worry, so it is.”
