Rangers manager target Kevin Muscat update emerges amid new revelation
Kevin Muscat, who has been linked with the Rangers job, has admitted that he held talks with multiple clubs towards the end of last season.
However, he was not satisfied with the conversations he had with them and opted to stay put at Shanghai Port.
The Daily Record reported on 14 November that Muscat has been floated as a successor to Philippe Clement.
They cite Muscat’s interview with aleagues.com.au where he said: “I was really happy because I had one or two private discussions with different parties towards the end of last season and in discussions, people actually from clubs said that ‘Well, that really can’t work here and how do you know that can work here, your methods?’
“When I finished those conversations, I was like you know what? Maybe this is not for me, because they’ve not followed me enough to to actually stick their neck out.
“Whereas here, the sports director Mr (Xiang) Sun, he’s one of the first two Chinese players to play in Europe. It was the complete opposite. I want you come out here and do what you’ve done in Shanghai. I want you to build it your way.”
Rangers must try and bring Kevin Muscat to Ibrox
Given Muscat’s comments about potential clubs doubting his methods, it’s plausible that Gers could be one of the teams he referred to, especially considering his past interest in the managerial position there.
If Rangers are contemplating the Australian as a replacement for Clement, they must learn from past managerial appointments by thoroughly understanding and embracing his football philosophy.
His success in Asia/Oceania, following his approach, indicates his potential to bring a distinctive style to the Ibrox outfit.
For this to work, the club hierarchy would need to fully commit to allowing the 51-year-old the freedom to implement his tactics and vision for the team, which might involve a significant squad overhaul.
Given how unpopular Clement is among the fans, it’s fair to assume that a large chunk of the fans will be happy to have Muscat as the next manager.

However, the club do not seem to be in an ideal financial situation to sack the Belgian.
In other Rangers news, the club are still paying Giovanni van Bronckhorst and Michael Beale as a compensation claim has emerged on Philippe Clement.
