Rangers kit reveal part of ‘Huge’ wider issue in football after Ibrox announcement
Rangers pricing of their new 125 Heritage Collection kit is part of a “huge” wider issue in football, Dan Plumley has said.
The Bears were questioned after the standard shirt was priced at £75, something that will be worn in December to celebrate Ibrox.
Plumley, a football finance expert, admitted that clubs will argue that no matter the price, the shirts are still being purchased so they likely won’t change things.
“I just think it’s par for the course at the minute in the market,” he exclusively told Ibrox News.
“Shirt prices are a huge wider issue, but if you look at what a lot of clubs are charging, it’s in and around that ballpark and I think there is a wider conversation about the price of shirts.
“I understand that, particularly with the cost of living crisis and things being squeezed, but what the clubs are looking at and I’m sure this will be the case for this shirt, even if it is worn once, I would hazard a good guess that it will sell out.
Rangers revenue boost on cards at Ibrox
“The club will say ‘okay, but you’re still buying it and we’re still able to sell at that price’ and ultimately, that’s what it comes down to.
“Over the top of that, whether we think it is good value or not, it’s market value in terms of where it is at but that additional little bit of revenue can contribute towards club operations, it can go towards player wages and however you use that money is up to the club.
“That’s the other side of the equation, that money will benefit the club in revenue terms.”

The kit is said to be flying off the shelves, with the long-sleeved blue shirt already sold out at Ibrox [Daily Mail, 14 November].
While that happens, change isn’t going to be likely and the money collected with no doubt help the club after a transitional summer that saw plenty of trouble on and off the pitch.
