Si Ferry was left baffled after Derek Ferguson was proven right by predicting that Hearts would control the game against Rangers.

Speaking on the Open Goal podcast (13 November), Ferry said that after Ferguson predicted Hearts to dominate possession at Ibrox, that's exactly what came to pass despite the Gers winning 1-0.

Cyriel Dessers' goal inside the opening six minutes gave Philippe Clement's side the points, but the visitors missed several chances to draw level after exerting more control over the game.

Ferry said: "Derek Ferguson says to me on the Coupon show; 'I expect Hearts to control the majority of the game', which I found baffling – but it turned out that that's what actually happened.

"How are Hearts controlling games at Ibrox against Rangers? Can somebody please tell me?

"Have Hearts got better players than Rangers? No – why are they controlling games at Ibrox?"

Philippe Clement riding his luck at Rangers after Hearts win

Had Hearts managed to draw level at Ibrox with one of their ample chances, it was they who looked more likely to complete a turnaround than the Gers did to find a second goal from somewhere.

Although the Bears did produce chances of their own in the second half, their best efforts came in stoppage time and things could have been very different following refereeing controversy at the death.

Questions therefore remain over Clement's ability to get anything close to the best out of his side, as they struggle and squeeze their way to points over teams that clubs above them are easily dispatching.

Usually, the Gers only have to deal with one club above them – Celtic – but Aberdeen's early-season form, including a seismic victory over Clement's side at Pittodrie, leaves them miles off the pace.

To bridge the nine-point gap to the Premiership's two outright front-runners, displays simply have to improve, and if the chasm does widen further, Clement could be pushed toward the brink.
