Nils Koppen could pull a rabbit out of the hat by bringing Arif Aiman Hanapi to Rangers amid links with the Malaysia international.

New Strait Times reported via its print edition on Sunday [10 November] that the attacker is attracting interest from the Light Blues.

Aiman has seemingly made his way onto the Ibrox outfit's transfer wishlist ahead of January after shining for Johor Darul Ta'zim in Malaysia.

Arif Aiman Hanapi could be out-of-the-box signing by Nils Koppen at Rangers

On the surface, this comes as a surprise as it is not often that Rangers go shopping in Asia, let alone Malaysia.

However, Aiman has the potential to be valuable for Rangers both as a player and an asset that could be sold for a profit in the future, and therefore, could prove to be a masterstroke from Koppen.

The 22-year-old has scored eight goals and provided as many goals in 15 appearances across all competitions for Johor, with five of those contributions coming in the AFC Champions League Elite - the UEFA Champions League equivalent for Asian clubs.

While European football is a different ball game altogether, it is hard to ignore when a talent is making waves regardless of where they are playing.

Aiman, who is pacy and assured in possession, prefers playing down the right flank, but is versatile enough to play in several attacking positions.

Vaclav Cerny may have made the right wing position his own, but there is no harm in adding competition to Philippe Clement's squad.
