Steven Gerrard to Rangers claim emerges with Dave King priority revealed

Rangers are unlikely to hire Steven Gerrard if they do decide to part ways with Philippe Clement, according to Keith Jackson.

The Daily Record journalist claims that the Al-Ettifaq manager is one who would be pushed for by Dave King and the board would not want to bring in someone close to him.

The former Gers manager has not yet been sacked by the Saudi Pro League side despite them being 12th on the table.

When asked if there’s any chance of returning to Ibrox, Jackson told Record Sport’s Hotline on 11 November:: “I doubt it. He’s done that one. Put it this way, I would imagine Dave King would be pushing for it and that’s probably one reason why it wouldn’t happen because the board, at this point, would be unlikely to want to appoint what Dave King would see as his guy.”

Rangers need a manager whose stock is currently on the rise

Bringing Gerrard back may not align with the club’s current needs or strategic direction.

His tenure at Aston Villa ended with his dismissal due to underwhelming results and his stint at Al-Ettifaq has been equally disappointing, with the team struggling in the league standings.

These experiences suggest that the Englishman’s managerial stock is not on an upward trajectory, which is precisely what Rangers should be looking for.

They need to rope in a manager whose career is advancing and who brings fresh ideas and success.

The club must hire someone who can elevate the team’s performance and challenge for titles, not someone who might be seen as a nostalgic choice or a return to past leadership.

Additionally, with boardroom dynamics at play, appointing someone closely linked to King could stir internal conflicts and that’s the opposite direction the club should be going in.
