Gennaro Gattuso claim emerges to replace Philippe Clement at Rangers

Gennaro Gattuso confirms that there is nothing in the speculation linking him to the Rangers job.

The Hajduk Split manager has been linked with the Ibrox hot seat amid uncertainty over Philippe Clement’s position at the club.

However, despite admitting back in 2015, that he would want to manage Gers, the Italian wants to stay at Hajduk Split and achieve the targets set out there.

Via the Daily Record (8 November), he said: “There’s nothing about me going to Rangers, only Hajduk is on my mind. It’s just gossip. My only priority is Istra. My only wish is to stay here and achieve our goals.”

Gennaro Gattuso may not be the right one for Rangers

Having spent a year as a player at Ibrox, Gattuso will surely know what the club embodies and the sort of standards that have been set.

Since retiring, he’s had nearly 10 different managerial jobs and he’s valued to make a long-lasting impact anywhere.

He has been in charge of high-profile clubs like AC Milan, Valencia, Marseille and Napoli where he won the Copa Italia in the 2019/20 campaign, but has not lasted longer than two seasons anywhere.

Whether or not he would be the man to take Rangers to the next level, is certainly unclear, but he would bring some much-needed character into the dressing room.

For far too long, players have been getting away with underwhelming displays and the managers have had to take the blame for them.

However, if Gattuso is to take over the reins one day, it’s unlikely to be this season so if the board are planning to sack Clement, they must look elsewhere.

In other Rangers news, sources have issued an update on the club’s new CEO to take over James Bisgrove’s role.
