Rangers issue negative response after mega announcement recently
Rangers will not be selling their goalkeeper’s kit despite including Jack Butland in the advertisement on Wednesday, reveals Four Lads Had a Dream.
Gers announced on 6 November that they have released the Ibrox 125 Heritage kit to celebrate 125 years at the iconic stadium.
Butland was among three players who participated in the photoshoot, donning his yellow jersey, but the club have responded that they will not be retailing it.
Four Lads wrote on X: “Question has been asked directly to Castore, waiting for response. Answer – ‘Rangers have said that sadly they won’t be retailing the goalkeeper kit’.”
Rangers make mistake by not selling the goalkeeper’s kit
The inclusion of Butland in promotional material for the Ibrox 125 Heritage kit, while not planning to sell his goalkeeper version, seems like a significant oversight.
It teases fans by showcasing a product that isn’t available, creating unnecessary confusion and potential frustration among supporters eager to own a piece of this historic collection.
From a marketing perspective, this decision misses an opportunity to capitalise on fan enthusiasm.
Goalkeeper jerseys often have a niche but dedicated market and by not offering Butland’s kit made by Castore, Rangers are forgoing potential revenue.
The situation also leads to poor fan engagement, as it can feel like a bait-and-switch tactic, where fans are shown something they can’t purchase.
This not only affects the club’s relationship with its fans but also contradicts the spirit of celebration and inclusivity that such heritage kits are meant to embody making it an own goal, of sorts.
In other Rangers, a “progressive” manager has been linked to take over from Philippe Clement after rejecting a job elsewhere.
