Derek McInnes to Rangers verdict drops as Philippe Clement exit feels likely
Rangers fans will not want Derek McInnes to become their next manager if Philippe Clement is sacked, Craig Fowler of The Herald has said.
The journalist wrote on 4 November that the Bears are unlikely to look at McInnes despite him being an early favourite, who has previously turned down to hot seat at Ibrox.
Despite the 2-1 win over Motherwell at Hampden Park in the Premier Sports Cup semi-final on 3 November, Fowler admits it feels like Clement is still edging towards the Ibrox exit.
Rangers need a change from Philippe Clement
McInnes quickly jumped up the rankings after Kilmarnock beat Rangers 1-0 in the Scottish Premiership on 20 October, not for the first time.
Looking at Killie’s 2024/25 season, they lost their first three matches, and they were even winless in the opening six games in the Scottish Premiership.
McInnes is currently hovering above the dreaded relegation line, with his side just four points above last-placed Hibernian in the table.
The only trophy the 53-year-old can boast about winning is the Scottish League Cup with Aberdeen, showing he may not have what it takes to succeed at Ibrox.
His time at the Dons showcased that the Scottish head coach struggles to get past the final hurdle, having reached four cup finals and only winning one.

Clements’s reign at the Bears was said to be hanging by a thread as Motherwell took the lead at Hampden, with the second-half comeback saving him an early sack [Scottish Daily Mail].
McInnes is an exceptional manager by many standards, but the Scotsman can’t be trusted to bring success back to Ibrox.
