Rangers torn to shreds over ‘unconscionable’ multi-million news – ‘Basketcase’

Gary Keown has described the current situation at Rangers as a “basketcase” amid recent financial developments.

Rangers have had a horrid start to the season under Philippe Clement and all aspects of the club have come under scrutiny as a result.

The Gers currently find themselves nine points behind Aberdeen with no signs of that improving and Keown hasn’t held back in criticising the business that the club have conducted.

In the print edition of the Scottish Mail on Sunday (3 November, pg 92), he said: “Rangers are now turning over close on £90 million a year and remain capable of recording losses of £17.2 million, as confirmed by the midweek financial results, is unconscionable.

“The whole business – with no permanent chair, no CEO, no head of academy, no direct of football – is a basketcase.”

Where does the future lie for Rangers?

Since the departure of Steven Gerrard in 2021, Rangers haven’t won a league title. Their fortunes do not appear to be changing any time soon under the current stewardship of Philippe Clement who has been under heavy fire for their performances as of late.

The defeat to Aberdeen just piled even more misery on the Scottish giants who only appear to be going in one direction.

The Gers face Motherwell in the Scottish League Cup semi final on Sunday, 3 November and failure to progress in the competition would not only likely spell the end for the Belgian, but could also eradicate any potential chance of silverware success this season.

While a win would provide a short-term boost for the club, it would likely just be seen as merely papering over the cracks at a club that many would perceive as being in turmoil.

Money has been spent at Rangers, hence the recent financial results, but the side are massively underachieving and things need to change, quickly.

In other Rangers news, Tom English has slammed the Gers and Philippe Clement as the club are in disarray on and off the pitch.
