Philippe Clement possible Rangers sack date shared as former Ibrox employee speaks out
Gregory Vignal believes Philippe Clement is under massive pressure in the next 10 days to save his Rangers job.
The relationship between the Gers and Clement is reaching boiling point, with the side’s prospects of competing for the Scottish Premiership title all but over after the 2-1 loss to Aberdeen on Wednesday [30 October].
Vignal, former Gers player and Women’s team manager, spoke on the Daily Record Sport’s Hotline LIVE [31 October], saying he is “worried” about the Belgian and feels the next week-and-a-half will ultimately decide his fate in Glasgow.
He said: “It is not an easy situation for him. He is under massive pressure and the board are as well because of the demand from the fans.
“There is a big game on Sunday and then a massive one on Thursday. And there is also another one [after] that before the next international break.
“Are you strong enough to survive? That’s the big question. What will happen in 10 days time? Who knows. But he is under massive pressure for sure.
“I am very worried for him because I am a manager and I know when you are in a difficult situation and under pressure that you are not living your best life, even for the people who are around you. It’s difficult but when you put your signature on the contract as Rangers manager, you can’t complain.
“You know it will be a tough job and you know the situation before you sign. If you accept to be the Rangers manager, just crack on. The next 10 days will be really, really intense.”
Philippe Clement running out of time at Rangers
Given the current dire situation at Ibrox, it begs the question of whether Clement regrets penning a new deal on the eve of the 2024/25 season or whether the club will regret offering a new deal now.
Rangers are undoubtedly a mess from top to bottom and, with John Gillian acting as interim chief executive officer, the club may not be positioned to make such an important decision on Clement’s future.
Regardless, a drastic change is needed at Ibrox. To consider the SPFL campaign meaningless on November 1 is farcical of a club this size.
Aberdeen, a side that finished ninth in the league last term, comfortably dispatched the Light Blues at Pittodrie – their rise to the summit of the SPFL is a stark reminder to the Rangers board of how success can be achieved despite financial inferiority to Celtic.

Clement is a man defeated, albeit the Belgian worked hard on a shoestring budget throughout the summer to build a side capable of competing on all fronts this year. However, the experiment has been a resounding failure and it may be time to call it a day.
The situation at Ibrox has spiralled beyond control and, someone, anyone, within the current board needs to get a grip on the club, show some leadership, and do what needs to be done.
A move for Derek McInnes may be out of the realms of possibility. However, there will still be plenty of managers available who will be interested in the monumental challenge that is Rangers.
