Kris Boyd moots mass exodus at Ibrox after Rangers v Aberdeen debacle
Rangers fans are set to turn their backs on Philippe Clement and Ibrox in the wake of their 2-1 loss to Aberdeen on Wednesday (30 October), Kris Boyd has said.
Speaking on Sky Sports Scotland (30 October), Boyd said that several Gers fans he has spoken to have already turned on Clement due to the insipid style of play the Belgian is attempting to implement.
Boyd added that crowd figures are already on the wane at Ibrox, and with a Scottish League Cup semi-final against Motherwell coming up on 3 November, feared for how many would attend at Hampden Park.
He said: “It’s easy to say ‘oh there’s no money there’ – the crowd will tell you.
“The crowds are down at Ibrox, interesting to see how many turn up at Hampden, and once that starts to dwindle away, the club’s losing money as well because the fans don’t want to turn out.
“The fans are key in everything here, because once they get fed up and bored of watch this style of play – or lack of style of play – then that’s it.
“Once the fans turn – and believe me, having spoken to a few of them, they have turned.”
Rangers fans ready to vote with their feet at Ibrox
No sets of fans in the Scottish Premiership have been through the wringer quite like the Ibrox faithful so far this season, forced to jump through hoops off the pitch only to be given turgid football on it.
The Light Blues’ return to Hampden Park to face Motherwell coming at arguably their lowest point following defeat to Aberdeen is somewhat ironic, given what happened earlier in the campaign.
Delayed redevelopments to the Copland Road Stand at Ibrox forced the Gers from their spiritual home for the opening weeks of the season, with four ‘home’ matches played across the city at Hampden.
Understandably seen as a boardroom failure – which has also set the club back five figures financially – it’s early surprising that a number of fans are ready to turn their backs on the leaderless club altogether.
Clement’s style of play shows no sign of improving, and the hierarchy have shown no signs of providing a platform for success, and if crowds do continue to dwindle, the club only have themselves to blame.
In other Rangers news, the club’s huge financial losses haven’t been helped by news concerning their two previous managers.
