Scott Burns shares Philippe Clement Rangers sack verdict ahead of Aberdeen clash
Scott Burns doesn’t think Rangers will be able to “stick by” Philippe Clement if they lose their next two games against Aberdeen and Motherwell.
The Belgian has been under scrutiny for most of the season due to the Gers’ underperformance as they currently find themselves third in the Scottish Premiership.
Speaking on the Daily Record’s Hotline Live (29 October), journalist Burns shared his verdict on Rangers’ recent form.
“I was saying they can’t keep sacking managers but with Philippe Clement, if it continues this way, I don’t think they can stick by him,” Burns said.
“You’ve got two big games here, you’ve got the Aberdeen game and if he loses that he’s under pressure and then the semi-final.
“If he loses both of them, I don’t think they can stand by him, I really don’t.”
Rangers need to step things up a gear against Aberdeen
Wednesday’s clash (30 October) against Aberdeen could be the turning point in the Gers’ season.
The Dons have occupied second place in the Scottish Premiership for a lengthy period of time now and it feels like the six-point gap between the Gers and the Dons is becoming increasingly difficult for Clement’s men to wear down.
Jimmy Thelin’s men have found themselves in stellar form and unless someone such as Vaclav Cerny continues his recent run of good form, it’s hard to see how Rangers will get anything from the clash.
If they do win at Pittodrie on Wednesday evening, it would likely give Clement a massive boost and would relieve an awful lot of pressure from his shoulders.
Many pundits believe that if the Gers don’t come away from their clash against the Dons with all three points, it could spell the end of the Belgian’s tenure despite the fact he’s only recently extended his stay.
So, if the 50-year-old doesn’t find a way to motivate his squad and get them to step their performance up a gear, it could end rather embarrassingly for him and his team.
