Connor Barron former coach makes reception prediction ahead of Aberdeen v Rangers

Michael Paton has predicted that Rangers’ Connor Baron will rise to the occasion when he faces his former Aberdeen side.

Barron joined the Gers last summer having spent seven years at Aberdeen and has played in all but one of their league fixtures so far.

Paton, his former coach during a loan spell at Brechin City, has spoken about how Barron will likely approach the fixture.

In the Daily Record print edition, (29 October, pg 49) Paton said: “Unfortunately for Aberdeen, a bigger club came in for Connor and he decided to move on for his career.

“I’m sure hell embrace it, he’s a strong character who just lets football do the talking.

“I’m sure Connor will be silently prepared for anything that’s going to come his way but once he’s on the park and has a ball at his feet any worry or doubt will go out of his head.”

Aberdeen encounter is a must-win for Rangers

With the gap currently six points at the top, Rangers need to make this encounter against Aberdeen count.

It has been a poor start to the season for Philippe Clement’s side but they have a massive chance to close the gap and reignite their hopes of achieving success.

The Gers have failed to win a league title since the departure of Steven Gerrard in 2021 and a defeat would likely end any possibility of their fortunes changing this campaign. However, a win would be huge.

Defeat could see Clement’s side fall nine points behind both Celtic and Aberdeen whereas a win could potentially close the gap to three points if Celtic were to lose their next fixture.

Clement has been under pressure to keep his job at Ibrox in the last few weeks and failure to win against Aberdeen could be the final nail in the coffin for the Belgian manager.

In other Rangers news, Philippe Clement has made clear that Clinton Nsiala is not expected to be a factor for the Rangers first team as things stand.
