Brendan Rodgers hopes for Rangers draw v Aberdeen at Pittodrie – Chris Sutton
Chris Sutton believes Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers will be hoping Rangers and Aberdeen draw their showdown at Pittodrie.
Philippe Clement’s side face Jimmy Thelin’s Dons on Wednesday (30 October) as they look to close the gap at the top of the table and build off of their Ibrox win over St Mirren last time out.
While Aberdeen currently pose more of a threat to Celtic’s title hopes than the Light Blues, Sutton believes Rodgers will be hoping for a draw at Pittodrie, but Celtic fans will be praying for an 8-0 thrashing.
Speaking on It’s All Kicking Off (29 October, 27:45) he said: “It is big, are we talking about supporters or Brenden Rodgers?
“Brenden Rodgers would probably prefer a draw but the Celtic supporters would probably prefer Aberdeen to beat Rangers 8-0.”
What has happened to Philippe Clement and Rangers and Ibrox?
It isn’t often that a non-Old Firm game has this much riding on it, particularly at this stage of the season, but it is not an exaggeration to suggest that this is a season-defining game for the Gers and Clement.
The Light Blues cannot afford to let the gap to the top of the Premiership table grow any greater than it already is. The Gers’ title hopes are already slim and another defeat could all but end their hopes of winning the league.
If Rangers are ruled out of the title race at this stage, it will only further increase the pressure on Clement from supporters and pundits alike.

The Belgian is already facing the wrath of some fans after recent poor performances, but that will only get worse if they leave Pittodrie with anything less than three points.
Hopefully, the Light Blues will finally turn a corner on Wednesday evening. There have been signs in the Gers’ recent displays to suggest that this side is capable of performing when the pressure is on.
They need to put together one complete performance against Thelin’s side to show that they cannot be ruled out of this title race just yet.
