Aberdeen legend issues ‘dangerous’ admission ahead of Rangers clash
Duncan Shearer has warned Aberdeen against underestimating Rangers when they visit Pittodrie in the Scottish Premiership on Wednesday (30 October).
The Dons are unbeaten in the league this season and have the opportunity to go nine points ahead of an inconsistent Light Blues side under the lights at Pittodrie.
However, Shearer reckons Rangers are still a threat, having thrashed FCSB 4-0 in their latest UEFA Europa League outing.
The former striker does not expect Jimmy Thelin and Co. to be complacent against the Gers, but insisted that taking them lightly will be “dangerous” for the home side.
“Aberdeen certainly have the form and quality to do it, but Rangers, for all their inconsistency, remain a threat”, Shearer wrote in his column on The Press and Journal on Tuesday (29 October).
“There’s no doubt a home win at Pittodrie would be yet another statement of intent from Aberdeen, but for all Rangers’ struggles this season, I do not expect any complacency from Thelin and his players.
“Aberdeen have every reason to be confident heading into the game, however, it is dangerous to underestimate the Light Blues – who have shown what they can do in Europe.
“What the Dons should be, though, is confident and unfazed by the challenge ahead of them.”
Pittodrie a tough place to visit for Rangers
Aberdeen boast a 100 per cent record at Pittodrie, having won each of their five league games at home so far, thus making Wednesday’s game a tricky one for Rangers.
Furthermore, it is worth noting that the Light Blues have only won one of their last four Premiership visits to Pittodrie, with their last victory coming in December 2022.
Taking all three points home would, therefore, be a huge boost of confidence for Philippe Clement’s side, who bounced back from their defeat to Kilmarnock on 20 October with wins against FCSB and St Mirren.
The Gers’ performance in their 2-1 victory over St Mirren at Ibrox on Sunday (27 October) was drab, but they now have a chance to reduce the gap with Thelin and Co. to three points.

While Shearer has stayed grounded ahead of Rangers’ visit to Pittodrie, another Aberdeen great Willie Miller cut a confident figure when previewing the game last week.
In other Rangers news, a new claim linking Graham Potter to Ibrox has emerged, with Tam McManus shooting it down with a Harry Potter joke.
