Rangers v FCSB incident leaves Bill Leckie baffled inside Ibrox
Bill Leckie was “baffled” as to why FCSB had a goal ruled out in their European encounter with Rangers at Ibrox.
In the end, it was a comfortable 4-0 victory for Rangers on Thursday (24 October) thanks to a brace from Vaclav Cerny as well as goals from Tom Lawrence and Hamza Igamane.
Things didn’t start that way for the Gers, however. FCSB thought they had taken an early lead after Jack Butland was dispossessed by David Miculescu, who rolled the ball into an empty net only to see his goal chalked out.
In a video posted on The Scottish Sun Sport X account [24 October], journalist Leckie said: “I’m still baffled by this one. The Italian referee chalked it off for a foul that very few people seemed to see.
“Rangers fans at that point were in a really seething mood but they soon came back onside.”
An important victory for Rangers
After what has been a fairly dismal start to the season, Rangers needed a result against FCSB and they achieved that.
It was a type of performance that has been missing in the league on several occasions, leaving Phillipe Clement’s side six points behind Celtic and Aberdeen after just seven games.
Cerny was the star of the show, scoring twice and assisting Tom Lawrence for the opener, just minutes after FCSB had their goal ruled out.
If Rangers are to make up ground in the league, performances like this are going to be needed consistently and players are going to have to step up to the plate as they did against FCSB.

St Mirren are the opponents for Clement’s side at the weekend in an absolute must-win game.
Failure to pick up a result will pile extra pressure on the Belgian manager, who has been under serious fire as of late. Let’s just hope the win over FCSB acts as turning point in the season.
In other Rangers news, Ally McCoist was delighted with Connor Barron’s “brilliant” piece of play.
