Philippe Clement has perfect press conference response to Rangers jibe

Philippe Clement offered the perfect response to a jibe at his style of play after Rangers beat FCSB 4-0 on Thursday (24 October).

The Gers marched to a commanding victory in the Europa League at Ibrox with Tom Lawrence and Hamza Igamane providing goals either side of a Vaclav Cerny brace on the night.

Clement was in good spirits after the victory, as Stevie Clifford revealed via Four Lads on X [24 October] that the Belgian offered a playful response to his previous comment on the over-reliance on long balls.

Clifford posted: “Philippe Clement sees me & embraces me at the entrance to the press conference ‘Not too many long balls for you tonight then?!’”

Rangers back on track in Europa League

The Gers may trail six points behind Scottish Premiership leaders Celtic but the supporters still hold out hope for a successful season with a glowing performance in the Europa League.

Clement has been unable to escape constant speculation regarding his future this year, particularly after the 1-0 loss to Kilmarnock last weekend.

The boss who inflicted that defeat, Derek McInnes, was one of the names touted as his potential replacement [PLZ Soccer].

Rangers have a mountain to climb if they are to land the SPFL crown this term, with a must-win trip to Pittodrie next Wednesday [30 October] to face high-flying Aberdeen, which could have monumental consequences on the side’s prospects for a title push.

The Light Blues must take the momentum from the Europa League win into the SPFL. The loss on the weekend was indeed an unnecessary bump in the road but sometimes a shock loss can be the wake-up call to light the fire in a poor start to the season.

After the trip to Olympiakos in early November, the European road becomes difficult with ties against Nice, Tottenham and Manchester United on the horizon, which will surely decide whether the side can progress to the knockout rounds.

Until the Gers are back within reach of Celtic and Aberdeen, the Europa League must take priority for Clement as a deep run into the competition could have massive financial ramifications for Rangers.
