Mohamed Diomande injury update shared ahead of Rangers v Lyon in Europa League

Gordon Duncan has revealed that Mohamed Diomande is back in Rangers training ahead of the Europa League clash against Lyon.

The Gers face the Ligue 1 giants on Thursday (3 October) and have been handed an injury boost ahead of the all-important European clash.

Reporting live on Sky Sports News on 2 October (12:54pm), Duncan spoke as Diomande was spotted at the Auchenhowie training base.

He said: “Good news for Rangers fans. You can see Diomande is back in training today. He sat out the game against Hibs at the weekend, so this is a welcome return ahead of the Lyon game.”

The Ivory Coast international is a welcome return to the Light Blues’ side after a narrow win last time out against Hibernian at Ibrox.

A goal from Tom Lawrence was enough to secure all three points as Philippe Clement looks ahead to a clash against Lyon.

This will be a true test of the Belgian and his side’s credentials after starting their Europa League campaign with a superb win away against Malmo on 26 September.

It could prove to be a risk to chuck the former Nordsjaelland man straight in against tough opposition at home given he has been absent since the clash in Sweden.

Against Hibs, Nicolas Raskin came in from the start alongside Connor Barron before the Belgian was swapped for Kieran Dowell at half time.

It is safe to say that Diomande would be a step up from those and could be a useful option to come straight in to face Pierre Sage’s men.
