Vaclav Cerny slammed for ‘terrible thing’ he did in Rangers win v Hibs live on Sky Sports
Vaclav Cerny was slammed by Neil McCann live on Sky Sports for doing a “terrible thing” as Rangers held on for a nervy 1-0 win over Hibs.
The Sky Sports pundit reacted live on the outlet’s match coverage on 29 September in the 48th minute as the Czech winger won possession on the right flank deep in his own half, before playing an aimless weak pass towards James Tavernier which was easily intercepted by Junior Hoilett.
Losing possession allowed Hibs to swing a cross into the box from Jordan Obita which was eventually cleared by Robin Propper as the ball bounced awkwardly, and McCann blamed the whole situation on Cerny.
He said (1.11pm): “It was bouncing around at a horrible height. Cerny does great work and then just does a terrible thing by giving up possession in the final third there, it’s so poor.”
Wolfsburg winger in trouble amid Rangers win
It ultimately didn’t prove costly on the day as Philippe Clement’s men just about held on through an increasingly scrappy second 45 minutes to record their fourth-straight win since the Old Firm derby defeat at Celtic.
But the slack play from Cerny was representative of his increasingly disappointing form, despite the Light Blues improving on the whole.
The 26-year-old was one of the bright points of the early weeks of the campaign as he showed obvious quality in his first few outings as Clement restricted his minutes, and the excellent winning goal he scored in the 2-1 win over Motherwell at Hampden Park (10 August) seemed a positive sign of things to come.
But he was unavailable for the 1-0 win at Dundee after the international break (15 September) and had a miserable night in the Europa League at Malmo this week as he capped off an uncertain outing with a terrible miss in the first half.

Few would suggest that Ross McCausland is a better player overall but the Northern-Irishman came on to score a great goal in Sweden and again looked the more confident against Hibs.
With Rabbi Matondo out injured long-term [Football Scotland, 5 September] now would be the time for Cerny to step up, but he seems to have taken a strange backwards step and looks less certain than when he arrived.
In other Rangers news, a confirmed transfer window update has emerged for Clement already ahead of January.
