McManus furious at what he saw in Rangers win v Hibs – ‘Horrific, Stinker’
Tam McManus slaughtered Hibernian forward Mykola Kukharevych after his “horrific” penalty that was saved by Rangers goalkeeper Jack Butland.
McManus posted on X [29 September] to give his blunt view as Butland easily took in Kukharevych’s weak spot-kick diving to his right.
The first half was drawing to a close when the incident occurred with Tom Lawrence having expertly put the Gers one up at Ibrox in a game crucial to win to keep pace.
The penalty was awarded following a VAR check, which spotted John Souttar’s elbow making contact with a close-range shot as Hibs threatened Butland’s goal.
McManus’ post read: “Horrific pen, what’s with the run up. Stinker”, followed by a face-covering emoji.
Rangers went on to win the game 1-0, with Butland’s save proving crucial.
Jack Butland keeps out Hibs penalty for Rangers
Butland gleefully accepted a gift late in the first half at Ibrox, with Hibs spurning a huge opportunity to level the game before half-time.
The penalty decision was correct, but the England stopper came to the rescue with, admittedly, one of the easiest penalty saves he’ll ever make.
However straightforward it was, it will, though, certainly give Butland more confidence between the sticks.
McManus is accurate in his verdict on the penalty, with Swansea City loanee Kukharevych taking a bizarre hesitation in his run-up which took all the power out of his strike.
It was far too close to the middle of the goal and too simple for Butland, who was left with a 50/50 chance and grabbed it with both hands.
Ibrox would have exploded with wrath had a Rangers player taken a penalty like that – it was an out-of-jail card for Philippe Clement’s side.
