Oscar Cortes misses Rangers training in last-gasp team news v Malmo

Oscar Cortes was missing from Rangers training on 25 September ahead of their Europa League clash against Malmo, according to PLZ Soccer.

The news outlet reported via X that the winger was nowhere to be seen as the Gers prepare for the clash on Thursday 26 September.

Ridvan Yilmaz was the only other absentee as Philippe Clement prepares for the trip to Sweden.

Oscar Cortes’ absence is a big blow for Rangers

There’s no doubt that Rangers will want to start their European campaign off with a bang and will be looking to come away with all three points from their game against Malmo.

Clement’s men have had a tough season so far but have recently managed to get back to winning ways at the best possible time.

While the club have several options on the flanks, it feels as if Cortes’ absence is something that they could’ve done without, especially since he’s just returned from injury.

The club have the likes of Vaclav Cerny ready and waiting to be used with the attacker admitting that the constant pressure at Rangers to perform was a “good thing” [Daily Record, 24 September].

Clement himself has been through it since the start of the campaign but with his future now seemingly secured after John Gilligan backed him on Sky Sports on 24 September, he can focus on his team and getting them back into some sort of form.

Their clash against Malmo will be a real test and could set a precedent for how the rest of their European campaign could pan out.
