Craig Bellamy speaks with Tom Lawrence over Wales return for Rangers man
Rangers star Tom Lawrence has held talks with Craig Bellamy over a return to the Wales squad, according to Phil Cadden.
The Sun journalist posted on X (25 September) with an update that Bellamy is exploring all of his options regarding player availability for Wales, with a recall for Lawrence very much on the cards.
The last of Lawrence’s 23 caps for his country came back in 2021, with the 30-year-old expressing his desire to return to the international fold [Glasgow Times, 20 September].
Tom Lawrence is must-pick for Wales after improved Rangers form
Lawrence has scored twice in his last three league games for the Light Blues, including the winner against Dundee United, and will be hoping to translate this form into a Wales shirt some time soon.
The void left by Gareth Bale’s retirement is still yet to be filled by the Dragons, and although not on Bale’s level by any stretch, Lawrence coming in from the cold could become a key man once more.
Expected to be sold as part of Philippe Clement’s squad overhaul this summer, Lawrence has instead stayed put at Ibrox and is currently keeping some much-fancied players out of the number 10 role.
Nedim Bajrami, signed for £3.3million from Sassuolo on Deadline Day, is yet to be utilised in his preferred position and played out wide against Dundee on 21 September.
It remains to be seen how long Lawrence remains Clement’s preference in attacking midfield, but for as long as he keeps up his current vein of form, a Wales recall looks all the more likely.
