Rangers ready for radical changes after boardroom developments at Ibrox
Rangers are “crying out” for radical change in the wake of comments made by Dave King and John Gilligan, Keith Jackson has said.
Speaking on Daily Record Sport’s Hotline (24 September), Jackson said that fans are growing tired of the “bickering” between King and the Gers boardroom following John Bennett’s resignation.
King has publicly declared his desire to return to the club as chairman [talkSPORT, 16 September], but his frequent off-pitch statements have been compared to Cyriel Dessers on the field.
Jackson said: “Fans are growing tired of it. They’re growing tired of some of their own players, they’re growing tired of Dave King and the interventions, they’re growing tired of the constant bickering.
“Dave King is now the directorial Cyriel Dessers. They’ve had enough – they’ve seen it, they know it doesn’t work, and they want something different.
“This club is now crying out for radical change and some signs of modernisation, and that’s going to have to come from outwith the room – because it’s not in the room.”
Is Dave King the man to make ‘radical’ changes at Rangers?
Despite being the largest shareholder with a 14.12 per cent stake, Gilligan’s comments in his first press conference as interim chairman have distanced King from an active role in the Ibrox boardroom [David Edgar, 23 September].
Given King has previously held the role of chairman, his return to take the top job in G51, however unlikely that currently seems, would be more representative of a move backwards rather than forwards.

The club have been caught between change and stagnation in their differing departments across recent months, with much of the former coming on the pitch as Philippe Clement overhauled his squad.
However, with numerous vacancies – namely CEO and academy director – still to be filled after months of inactivity, it’s clear that what’s left of the boardroom needs to get their act together.
Being forced out of Ibrox due to delayed redevelopments has only gone further to damaging the board’s reputation, and the jury is out on how long patience amongst the fanbase will last, regardless of whether King is present or not.
