Kris Boyd ‘surprised’ by Nedim Bajrami news as Rangers beat Dundee United
Kris Boyd has been left “surprised” after a new Nedim Bajrami update emerged at Rangers during the Gers’ clash with Dundee United.
The Light Blues bounced back from their Old Firm defeat last time out to Celtic to claim all three points with a 1-0 win at Tannadice on Sunday (15 September) thanks to Tom Lawrence’s first-half strike.
Lawrence was preferred ahead of deadline day signing Bajrami in the number 10 role and Sky Sports pundit Boyd admitted that he expected the Albanian international to feature from the off after his last-minute transfer.
Speaking on Sky Sports Football on Sunday (15 September, 13:00) he said: “When you pay that kind of money, you expect him to play and I was surprised he didn’t start.
“They will expect Bajrami to get on the ball and make things happen.”
Why did Philippe Clement not start Nedim Bajrami for Rangers v Dundee United?
As Boyd suggests, when the Light Blues fork out a big transfer fee for a player, most pundits and supporters would expect them to be immediately thrown into the fold regardless of how much time they’d had on the training pitch.
While Clement had already suggested that there was a very good chance the Albanian international wouldn’t start against Dundee United, most fans would have still been surprised when the team was named.
The Albanian international has been signed to fill the void in the number 10 position now that both Ianis Hagi and Todd Cantwell are completely out of the picture. Clement needs to trust him and let him off of his lead.
Although Lawrence impressed once again at Tannadice, it is clear that he isn’t going to win the Gers a title. Hopefully, now that Bajrami has had one appearance off of the bench, Clement will be more willing to give him a start next time out.
