Kris Boyd reveals if he took up Chris Sutton offer after Rangers meltdown
Kris Boyd joked that he refused a “hug” from Chris Sutton after his TV meltdown following Rangers’ Old Firm loss to Celtic.
Talking to The Warm Up (13 September), the former Gers man admitted that Sutton jokingly offered him a “cuddle” after the Old Firm derby, but didn’t take the bait.
Rangers’ lacklustre display saw Boyd angry at the “embarrassing” performance shown by the players during Sky Sports’ post-match coverage, which led to the 41-year-old’s interaction with his colleague.
Pressed on if he took Sutton up on his offer of a cuddle post-match, Boyd smirked: “Definitely not. He can’t even get a cuddle off his wife, never mind me. It’s easy when your team is winning. It’s not that long ago that a smile used to upset a lot of people in Scotland, so I will bide my time.”
He then added: “When you look at it, just the way the game materialised and panned out you look at Rangers and they have just not been able to lay a glove on Celtic over a number of games now. They started really well and Celtic obviously got that goal that was chopped off, and Rangers then capitulated. It would be a worry.
“You are saying to yourself ‘where are your characters, where is the leaders that are going to stand up?’, because going to a cauldron like that – there have been better teams than this one just now that have gone to Celtic and folded – but you have got to at least see that fight. I thought for large periods of that game there wasn’t.”
Rangers need to find a spark
Manager Phillipe Clement sees his side in fourth position in the Scottish Premiership, behind Celtic, Aberdeen, and Dundee United.
Though they have two wins and a draw under their belt, they were clearly second-best against their Glasgow rivals.
Concern about the performance of captain James Tavernier continues, with the defender linked to Turkish clubs, Trabzonspor and Besiktas.
The Turkish transfer window shuts on 13 September, meaning the Englishman could remain in Scotland until at least January, and there are those who would rather he were moved on if a good offer comes in.

As the squad prepares to travel to Tannadice, uncertainty could play a factor in the match, and see the Light Blues fall further behind the pack they are chasing.
Clement will be desperate to end the speculation with Tavernier and move forward with his team, and ultimately get them back on track to challenge Celtic for the title.
