Rangers and Celtic nonsense continues as new developments hurt Scottish football
Dan Plumley has told Rangers and Celtic that they have to find a resolution to the Old Firm ticket saga for the financial health of the Scottish Premiership.
The first Old Firm derby of the season at Parkhead on Sunday (1 September) was played in front of only home fans after Celtic raised concerns over whether or not Ibrox would be ready to host their supporters.
As a result, the reverse fixture will be played in front of just Gers fans and finance expert Plumley insists the standoff between the two Glasgow rivals is not benefiting either club from a financial standpoint.
“Nobody wins in this situation,” Plumley exclusively told Ibrox News.
“You’ve got the wider optics of the Scottish Premiership itself and the outside perspective of that.
“It’s the biggest game in Scottish football, no disrespect to the other clubs but it is the biggest game and it’s the one that people will pay to consume and want to be involved in from a wider football context.
“So it doesn’t help anybody when you have this situation with away fans and now you’ve got big media players and Scottish legends jumping in on that.
“I’ve seen Ally McCoist and Graeme Souness and words that they’ve had about how much of a nonsense this is and it becomes tit for tat then and nobody wins in the long run.
“There has to be some sort of resolution because ultimately the whole product from a broadcasting angle and what it means for Scottish football, nobody wins in this scenario.
“It needs a real look at because nobody is benefiting from the current situation.”
Will Celtic fans travel to Ibrox for Old Firm clash v Rangers?
This debate has been a hot topic over the last few months, with major media personalities like Simon Jordan calling for the Light Blues to be punished for their role in the ticket standoff [talkSPORT, 19 August].

Ultimately, both Celtic and Rangers are already harming their own incomes by not allowing travelling fans to attend one of the biggest games in the world so it makes very little sense for one side to be punished for their actions.
Hopefully, a civil and final solution can be found by both clubs before the next match at Parkhead so that this “nonsense” can be well and truly put to bed once and for all this season.
