Chris Sutton hits back at what Barry Ferguson said about Rangers v Celtic
Chris Sutton has sarcastically told Celtic fans to stop doing the huddle when former Rangers captain Barry Ferguson is at Parkhead.
Sutton hit back at Ferguson via his personal X account (3 September) after he said that when the Bhoys fans did the ‘huddle’ it “hurt like hell” in an interview with the Daily Record.
This comes after the Gers were pummelled 3-0 by their arch-rivals in a game that further extended Philippe Clement’s poor run of form against Celtic.
“Can Celtic fans please stop doing the huddle when Barry is at Parkhead please…,” Sutton wrote.
Rangers need to step up their form to have a chance at the Scottish Premiership title
The 2024/25 campaign has gotten off to quite a rocky start for Clement’s men. After a summer transfer window that seemed muddled at times, the Gers have once again been humbled by their rivals and currently sit in fourth place.
Despite winning 6-0 against Ross County on 24 August, the Gers’ already face a five-point buffer to their table-topping rivals, a gap they cannot afford to grow in the coming weeks.
The Gers have to find some consistency after the international break and ensure they can keep Celtic within reach, otherwise the title race is going to be over before it’s barely begun.
The vast majority of Clement’s transfers have been ‘bargains’ such as that of Robin Propper’s arrival [the Scottish Sun, 2 August].
However, at a club like Rangers, you have to ensure you remain competitive even at a time when you are looking to build players for the future.
The fact that players such as Todd Cantwell were sold for less than £1million [The 4th Official, 31 August] also shows the gulf in difference between the quality of the two teams.
If things don’t get turned around soon at Ibrox, Rangers could be in for a very long and tedious season and Clement’s time could soon run out.
