Keith Jackson shares new Scottish Premiership title prediction after Rangers loss v Celtic

Keith Jackson believes the Scottish Premiership title is already slipping away from Rangers after the 3-0 defeat to Celtic on Sunday (1 September).

Philippe Clement was thwarted by Brenden Rodgers in the Old Firm derby once again, with the Gers failing to secure a second victory from their last 12 meetings with the Hoops.

Despite some early chances for the Light Blues, goals from Daizen Maeda, Kyogo Furuhashi and Callum McGregor saw Celtic already take a five-point lead over the Light Blues.

Writing for the Daily Record on Monday (2 September), Jackson said: “From the outside looking in, Rangers appear to be regressing at quite a staggering rate and the gulf between his side and that of Brendan Rodgers looks set to widen into a chasm over the coming months.

“There may be only five points separating the two of them at the top of the table after four league games. And yes, the season is only one month old.

“But only the most optimistic Rangers supporter will not concede already that yet another title is already disappearing out of sight. And optimism is thin on the ground these days.”

Celtic already set to pip Rangers to the Scottish Premiership title?

While the 2024/25 league campaign is only four matches old, fans have every right to be concerned over their title hopes as the Hoops pull away at the top of the table.

If the gulf between Rangers and Celtic was not already obvious, the price tags floating about during the summer transfer window said everything as Rodgers’ side continued to splash the cash.

Clement and Nils Koppen, on the other hand, have been tied to a shoestring budget, having to search high and low for cheaper alternatives or free agents to bring to Ibrox this summer.

Of course, there should be no excuse for the Gers’ lack of ambition to claim just their second league title in the last decade, but it certainly has a telling impact on the gulf between the Old Firm rivals.

The 3-0 defeat has left the manager under heavy pressure, and being unable to pip Celtic to the top of the table could already seal his Ibrox exit despite only joining in October.

In other Rangers news, Keith Jackson accused one Gers star of “throwing in the towel” v Celtic.
