Graeme Souness takes £50 bet with fan live on talkSPORT over Rangers final league position

Graeme Souness has accepted a £50 bet live on talkSPORT that Rangers will finish above Aberdeen in the Scottish Premiership this season.

Philippe Clement’s side have experienced a tough start to the 2024/25 campaign, crashing out of Champions League qualifying before losing the Old Firm derby 3-0 at Celtic Park.

Souness now has a different challenge on his hands, with a fan making a bet with the former Gers player, with a charity benefitting whether Aberdeen manage to finish higher in the table or not.

Calling into talkSPORT on Monday (2 September, 12:10pm), the fan said: “I will bet £50 that Aberdeen finish above Rangers this season,” to which Souness replied: “You’re on.”

Can Rangers beat Celtic to the Scottish Premiership title?

Clement’s main priority this season, especially after dropping out of the Champions League qualification process, should be pipping his opposite number, Brendan Rodgers, to the league title.

The Gers missed out on the Scottish Premiership trophy last term after a significant drop in form towards of the campaign, allowing the Hoops to swoop in and steal Clement’s thunder.

The Belgian arrived at Ibrox with a lot of promise, quickly lifting the League Cup after his appointment, and offering some hope after Michael Beale’s demise.

However, he is now massively under pressure from fans and the media, especially after losing the latest Old Firm derby on Sunday 1 September.

Both Aberdeen and Dundee United are above the Gers in the league table currently but after just four matches of the campaign, it would be a travesty if they finish any lower than second.

While Clement is under pressure right now to improve his side’s form and pip Celtic to the league title, there is absolutely no chance that he will remain in charge next season if Aberdeen finish above the Gers.
