Philippe Clement axes Tom Lawrence, two changes – Rangers confirmed XI v Celtic
Philippe Clement has named two changes to his Rangers starting XI for the first Old Firm game of the season against Celtic at Parkhead on Sunday.
The Gers are set to face Celtic in the Scottish Premiership in what should be a cracking game.
Clement has made a double change from the side’s 6-0 win against Ross County, with Mohamed Diomande and Robin Propper coming in. Leon Balogun and Tom Lawrence have both been axed to the bench.
The team news has been confirmed by the club’s X account [1 September] with the surprise exclusion of English midfielder Lawrence after his stellar performance last weekend.
Philippe Clement faces Celtic for the first time this season
Clement’s history as manager of the Gers hasn’t gone quite to plan when facing Celtic.
Since he took over at the club, the Belgian manager has yet to defeat Rangers arch-rivals despite their quest for the Scottish Premiership title.
The Glasgow-based outfit have changed their squad a fair amount over the course of the summer transfer window and have fielded a new-look side since they last faced off against the Bhoys.
A 6-0 win against Ross County last week will have no doubt boosted their spirits ahead of the biggest game in the Scottish calendar.
Former Aberdeen ace Connor Barron and new arrival Robin Propper will be set to experience their first Old Firm game of their careers and will no doubt want to get a ‘one-up’ over their arch-rivals.
Although spirits are high in Rangers’ camp, it will be no easy feat for Clement’s men to triumph over Celtic and it’s unlikely that Brendan Rodgers will go down without a fight.
At a minimum, Gers’ fans will want their team to give a good account for themselves and show that they have a chance at number 56 this term.
