Todd Cantwell Rangers exit saga on the verge as Blackburn personal terms update emerges

Todd Cantwell is now in the process of agreeing personal terms with Blackburn Rovers in order to complete a move away from Rangers, The Athletic reports.

Adam Leventhal reported via the outlet’s website on 30 August that the former Norwich midfielder’s Ibrox exit is now “on the verge” of completion after he passed a medical with the English club.

The 26-year-old has a £500,000 permanent transfer lined up to join John Eustace at Ewood Park, having twice asked Philippe Clement to leave Rangers this summer.

Progress is being made towards a crucial exit even as the hours are ticking by to get the to desired result.

It is going to be a major headache for Clement, Rangers, and Cantwell himself if he ends up back at Ibrox after the 11pm deadline.

The fanbase has turned against him and are not expected to accept him back into the fold, which he has made clear he doesn’t want anyway.

That would leave the prospect of a contract termination as the last resort [PLZ Soccer, 26 August] if nothing was available in Turkey or Saudi Arabia or one of the countries where the transfer window shuts later, so the Blackburn move looks by far the simplest solution at this stage.

Scott Wright has already completed a permanent exit to Birmingham City and the pair may not be the only attackers to leave Ibrox on Deadline Day, and Cantwell not the only one to Blackburn.

There is believed to be widespread interest from England in signing Rabbi Matondo before the deadline, including from Eustace, so the Gers are braced for more offers [Football Scotland, 30 August] as they try to focus on incoming deals.

In other Rangers news, the Light Blues are about to seal a long-awaited new signing before the deadline.
