Birmingham City to sign Scott Wright from Rangers after St Andrew’s news today

Birmingham City are now set to complete the signing of Scott Wright from Rangers after freeing up room in their squad, according to the Daily Record.

The Scottish outlet reported via its line transfer blog [29 August, 1:47pm] that the deal looks poised to go through before the transfer deadline following Siriki Dembele’s move to Oxford United.

That has freed up a spot for the Rangers attacker to finally complete his Ibrox exit after three years with the club, during which time he has accumulated over 100 appearances.

Rangers in ‘sorry state’ as Scott Wright exits

As pundit Dan Bardell put it, Rangers are in a “sorry state” right now – as this transfer goes a long way to highlighting.

Wright is going from representing the Gers to playing for a team in the third tier of English football.

While the winger will be guaranteed more starts in the long term – or so you would expect – it is a massive step back in terms of his career trajectory after this stint at Ibrox.

Ultimately, the 27-year-old sees this as the best choice for him and the Light Blues will accept the money. Bringing in a replacement, though, will be very tough given the time constraints.

Wright has been regularly picked by Philippe Clement so far this season, so his departure will leave a void to be filled.

Once this transfer is officially confirmed, which could be just hours away following the Dembele development, Wright will leave with everyone’s best wishes.

In other Rangers news, another player has agreed terms to leave the club before the window closes.
