Ianis Hagi could be about to cost Rangers thousands of pounds in the form of wages if he is serious about fighting for his spot at Ibrox.

The Romanian international has been isolated to the B team since returning from his season-long loan at Deportivo Alaves, with plenty of speculation surrounding his future at the club.

Hagi is expected to leave Ibrox before the transfer window slams shut [Chris Jack], but the player has already voiced his opinion about the rumours via his social media.

Writing via his Instagram story on Tuesday (27 August), he wrote: "I want to make it clear, I have never once asked to leave this football club.

“I will always make myself available, and there’s always a way to navigate around any situation if there’s a will on both sides and that was communicated officially weeks ago by me and my team.

“I’m here, willing and Rangers Ready to help, work and fight for the Club, Team and Manager.”

While this kind of determination is usually what passionate fans want to see from their exit-linked players, it could be an attitude that sees Clement's side flushing more funds away.

Ianis Hagi to remain at Rangers after 30 August deadline?

It is understood that the 25-year-old has a clause in his current contract, which when triggered, could boost his weekly wage by £6,000 once he reaches a certain number of appearances [Daily Record].

This would cost the club around £600,000 in wages if he were to see out the final two years of his contract at Ibrox, and with the Gers already strapped for cash, this is not an ideal situation.

The Hagi saga is likely to continue until the transfer window slams shut on 30 August, but the Gers must ensure he is sold, whether or not he is prepared to fight for his spot in the squad.

He is clearly not part of the manager's plans following an indifferent loan spell in La Liga, where he made just eight league starts, and the rumours and speculation about his unrest have done nothing to add a positive feeling at Ibrox.

The best thing for both parties would be for the player to find a new club this summer, but it remains to be seen whether this will happen before the transfer deadline.
