Ally McCoist ‘concerned’ live on talkSPORT as Rangers takeover developments emerge
Ally McCoist has taken Dave King’s word that Rangers are not attracting takeover interest from American investors.
This comes after news emerged on Tuesday (27 August) that several shareholders at Ibrox would be interested in selling their existing shares, with the club valued at around £150million [City A.M]
However, King, who is one of the club’s biggest stakeholders with 14.12 per cent of the shares, has already responded to the rumours, suggesting there is no truth behind them [The Rangers Review].
Speaking live on talkSPORT on Wednesday (28 August, 6:44 am), McCoist said: “I don’t know but something’s got to be done. I couldn’t tell you whether it’s good or bad because I don’t know anything about the potential American investors, I don’t know their background.
“However, the fact Dave King is insisting there is no truth whatsoever, then I’d have to take Dave’s word for it and say there’s obviously no interest – or maybe not so much ‘no interest’ but at this moment in time, there doesn’t look like there’s a deal to be done.
“But Al, I tell you what, I mentioned last week in conversation with Jeff [Stelling] – I’m just deeply concerned with what’s happened. It really looks like there are a good few who need to go out the door before they can spend any money to bring anyone in. So there are a lot of concerned Rangers fans out there – and I’m one of them.”
American takeover news squashed at Rangers
The Gers are stuck in a rather confusing time right now, and Philippe Clement will not appreciate any more distractions off the pitch or behind the scenes, especially not after the Ibrox redevelopment saga.
The manager is already feeling the pressure, going up against Old Firm rivals Celtic in a brand new season, but off-the-field matters have now taken the spotlight once again.
While the thought of a takeover at Ibrox could be an exciting prospect for the fans, especially if new funds were to be brought into the club, any of those hopes have already been squashed by the former chairman.
But despite the positive changes under Clement, John Bennett faces a tough task to lead the Gers back to Scottish Premiership victory, having already crashed out of Champions League qualifying.

Much of that can be put down to the lack of investment into the squad, with Clement and Nils Koppen having to work with a shoestring budget, which is why so many fans are concerned about the state of the squad.
New investors could certainly bring some positivity to Ibrox, but there is always a huge risk that comes hand-in-hand with a takeover.
In other Rangers news, the Gers want to sign a Bundesliga defender, as fresh talks begin at Ibrox.
